Elephant Remembers: A Journal Retreat Day R480

Sun 19 Nov.30 -16.30

And as elephants parade holding each elephant’s tail,
but if one wanders the circus won’t find the park, (William Stafford )
In a story six blind men argue about what an elephant is, for each has touched a different part of the creature – tusk, trunk, ear, side, foot, tail. There is something of the elephant in journalling. Something larger than life. Far more to journaling that we think, so elephant serves as an analogy for our creative day.

2. Pringle Bay

Female elephants communicate in some forty ways within their herd, as well as with fellow elephants in a larger radius. An elephant evokes memory. In India Ganesh the elephant god, is the friend of scribes and writers and remover of obstacles. Journalling offers all this and more. Journals form the basis of other genres – poetry fiction, autobiography. They also offer a safe place to write about the ‘elephant in the room.’
Venue: 345 Hangklip Rd Pringle Bay – home of Annemarie Breytenbach

Writing Yourself Alive A Creative Wordshop R500

Sat 9 Dec 09.00 -16.30
I know that there is room in me for a second huge and timeless life (Rilke)
We can all learn to write and tell our stories. And breathe life into them. This wordshop offers a safe place to explore your innate creativity and imagination and find the words to tell these stories (in your chosen language)… Writing involves a conversation with yourself and with others. An exchange of energies. A skill drawn from attention, presence and openness – an organic process rather than a talent.
Whether you see yourself as a beginner or someone who has befriended words, this wordshop will help you to find your voice. – and will link to other ways in which you can enjoy your creativity. We also focus on how to be present in your writing and engage the reader as a creative partner. Enrich your life. And source your bliss.

You will discover/rediscover how to:
 align yourself with the one inside who knows how to write
 start and sustain that conversation
 play, experiment and create a first draft
 breathe life into the words and let words breathe life into you
